‘Big nations must not bully small ones.’
Thus President Obama of the USA at the G20 summit in
Australia. Even more remarkable than his having the chutzpah to say such a
thing is the fact that, apparently, the entire conference chamber did not gasp
at the enormity before collapsing in hoots of derisive laughter. Ever since it
got big enough to do so, America has relentlessly bullied every country in the
world smaller than itself. That ought not to need saying; it is blatantly
apparent.
Given certain minimum levels of education and democracy,
people get the governments, and particularly the Prime Ministers and
Presidents, they deserve.
