bird of paradise

Jane, who has the website http://haftonandkelly.com/ , is worried that I shall soon run out of animal limericks. She suggests, though knowing I hate gardening, that I turn my attention to flowers, and to that end has sent me the picture below:

This has the common name bird of paradise; she explains that common plant names do not take initial capitals.

Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
A comic book hero?
No; think again:

This is a flower,
of the genus
Strelizia.
(Capital ‘S’:
Flowers don’t get much ritzier.)
